Introduction
Welcome to the MacMedic™ User’s Guide.  This guide takes you step-by-step through MacMedic™’s features and enables you to fully utilize the application.

What is MacMedic™ and What Does It Do?
MacMedic™ is an combination of several utility application: disk repair, data recovery, data backup, and systems configuration and management.

1. Disk Repair
The disk repair portion of MacMedic™ maintains and verifies your Macintosh file system, making repairs as necessary. 

2. Data Recovery
Use the data recovery portion of MacMedic™ when it is necessary to recover deleted or lost files.

3. Data Backup
MacMedic™ comes with backup software to secure your data.

4. Systems Configuration and Management
This portion of MacMedic™ will analyze your system's configuration and files, reporting any known conflicts.

5. File Deframentation and Optimization
As of MacMedic™ version 1.1.0, this function has not been implemented.

How Often Should I Use MacMedic™?
To keep your Macintosh running smoothly and efficiently, you should run MacMedic™ at least monthly.  If you frequently add new software or hardware, you may want to use it more often to screen for unforeseen problems or corruptions. 

MacMedic Backup should be used daily to prevent data loss from a catastrophic disk crash or other disk problems.

Since MacMedic™ detects potential and actual problems, regular usage can prevent many problems and reduce major headaches.

How Does MacMedic™ Stay up to Date?
MacMedic™ is created and developed by Total Recall™, a world-wide leader in the data recovery business.  Total Recall™ performs tens of thousands data recoveries each year for clients all over the world.  As such, knowledge and experience is gained as to what causes data loss and what can be done to prevent it.  Total Recall™ then takes this knowledge and updates MacMedic™ accordingly.  Total Recall Software does not charge for minor updates, or updates that correct existing bugs within the software.  These updates are free to registered users and update information can be found at our world-wide-web location, http://software.totalrecall.com.  Major updates or application updates are done on a regular basis and available to registered users.
